The original Soca. Lord Shorty started a new genre of Afro - Caribbean music and he deserves the honor of being its father. As Shorty became a Rastafarian, he sadly renounced the music he created for " going astray" in his previous playboy life. However I am thankful for this Soca he fathered and I love Soca as he sang it and the many artists who followed him to this day. Soca, though denounced by many, even its creator, gave new life to Trinidad and expanded its vibes to new horizons.
My first experience with Soca / Sokha was indeed around the mid 70s when I discovered and immediately bought a LP record by a new group from Trinidad: Kalyan.shortly after I bought a 2nd album by them. I thought they were the creators of the new Soca sound. i heard and loved Indrani when it came out.
