There’s Saltbush and McGinness
A couple drovers down the track
they came up here for muster
it was four or five years back
And there’s something 'bout these hills
that holds a man steadfast
And Saltbush & McGinness
Will remain here till their last
Dan Milligan’s a bushman
From hardened Irish stock
And all there is about him
Is chiselled from this granite rock
'Though the bottle’s his companion
And his anger’s quick to rise
A harder workin' fella
You’d be hard pressed to find
The spirit of the high country lives in these hills
And the wild horses run on the wind
Where Kosciuszko rises & the Snowy River flows
Thats where I’ll be
In the heart of the high country
Old Conroy loves this country
Where he was born and raised
The selection handed down
Where the wild horses graze
He’s the man who runs the station
Where horsemen gather for the ride
Across these grim and rugged hills
Where the colts run free and wild
The spirit of the high country lives in these hills
And the wild horses run on the wind
Where Kosciuszko rises & the Snowy River flows
Thats where I’ll be
In the heart of the high country
And that man from Snowy River
Where no other dared to go
He turned back the wild bush horses
Single handed brought them home
And the distant drum of hoofbeats
Of that bold and bravest ride
Still echos down the hills
Swells your heart with pride
The spirit of the high country lives in these hills
And the wild horses run on the wind
Where Kosciuszko rises & the Snowy River flows
Thats where I’ll be
In the heart of the high country
The spirit of the high country lives in these hills
And the wild horses run on the wind
Where Kosciuszko rises & the Snowy River flows
Thats where I’ll be
In the heart of the high country
