i remember all of frankie laine hits from my childhood this was one of them, great tune, still as good today

The music was written by Chinese songwriter, Chen Gexin in the 40s. With the Communist seizure of power in China in 1949, popular music was considered ideologically suspect. Chen was labeled a rightist and imprisoned in a Chinese gulag for "reform through labor" at Baimiaoling farm, Anhui in 1957. Chen died of starvation and illness in January 25, 1961 at the age of 47, during the Great Chinese Famine.

Memories of my late Dad. He said he heard this in Korea during the heat of battle when he had to go back to basecamp to get more Ammo. He said the supply guys had a radio playing this song. It was surreal being they had just came from some heavy fighting.
