The falling leaves
Drift by the window
The autumn leaves
All red and gold
I see your lips
The summer kisses
The sunburned hands
I used to hold.
Since you went away
The days grow long…
And soon I’ll hear
Old winter songs
But I miss you most of all
My darling, when autumn leaves start to fall…
C’est un chanson
Qui nous ressemble
Toi qui m’aimais
Et je t’aimais
Nous vivions tous les deux ensemble
Tou qui m’aimais
Moi qui t’aimais
Mais la vie separe
Ceux qui s’aiment
Tout doucement
Sans faire de bruit
Et la mer efface sur le sable
Les pas des amants desunis.
Since you went away
The days grow long…
And soon I’ll hear
Old winter songs
But I miss you most of all
My darling, when autumn leaves start to fall…
To say that Buddy DeFranco is the greatest clarinet player of all time dismisses a host of amazing clarinet virtuosos. But for sure, Buddy is one of them. I’m 71 soon, a ‘returned’ clarinet player and only recently started to listen to Buddy with great interest.. He was a curiosity to me as the yearly winner of Downbeat jazz poles in the 60’s. My head was elsewhere. My idol growing up was the late Pete Fountain. ( And I never saw him on Lawrence Welk!) Great tone. Amazing technical ability and musicianship. It helped that I loved his repertoire. But I am often knocked out watching clips of Benny Goodman, too. And Ken Peplowski and Eddie Daniels are quite unbelievable. And how ‘bout D’Rivera? What a genius. The list goes on . They all have much to offer and enjoy. Long live clarinet players and enthusiasts of that demanding instrument.
