Hot and sticky summer with everybody drinking beer by the river
And across the fire light somehow I caught her eye
She wasn’t like the other girls she put a spin on my world
I thought she was crazy about me but she was just plain wild
She’s wild as a river that sweeps away everything in its path
She’s wild as a mustang that’s never felt a saddle on its back
Wish I knew then what I know now, I could’ve saved myself somehow
Thought she was crazy about me but she was just plain wild
She said: Let’s get outta here, as she finished off my last beer
She took me by the arm and started running through the dark
Kissing in the alleyway and throwing our bottles out on main-street
She laughed as they crashed down just like she did when she broke my heart
All that’s in the past now I got married and I settled down
And my wild years have all been stowed away
But whenever I hear some tires squeal I check to see who’s behind the wheel
I always expect I’ll see her pretty face
